Publics and facilities
Facilities offer the population general and specialized services corresponding to the five main missions defined by the Act Respecting Health Services and Social Services, depending on whether they operate a:
- Centre local de services communautaires (CLSC); (CLSC);
- Centre hospitalier (CH); (CH);
- Centre d’hébergement et de soins de longue durée (CHSLD); (CHSLD);
- Centre de protection de l’enfance et de la jeunesse (CPEJ); (CPEJ);
- Centre de réadaptation (CR). (CR).
Users and in-patients committees are active in all these facilities, defending the rights of all users of the health and social services network, while taking into account the specific needs and characteristics of each facility’s clientele.
Youth
Child and youth protection centres are public institutions in every region of Quebec. They are responsible for providing specialized assistance to young people and their famillesexperiencing serious difficulties. They are governed by the Act Respecting Health Services and Social Services, the Youth Protection Act, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and the Civil Code. (1)
Accommodation
The mission of a residential and long-term care centre (CHSLD) is to offer accomodation, assistance, support and supervision services on a temporary or permanent basis, as well as psychosocial, nursing, pharmaceutical, medical, and rehabilitation services to adults who, due to loss of functional or psychosocial independence, can no longer remain in their natural living environment. In November 2019, the Minister Responsible for Seniors, Marguerite Blais, unveiled the creation of seniors’ and alternative homes to complement existing resources.
Rehabilitation
The mission of a rehabilitation centre is to offer adaptation or rehabilitation and social integration services to individuals who, because of their physical or intellectual deficiences behavioural, psychosocial, or family difficulties, addiction to alcohol, drugs, gambling, or any other type of addiction, require such services.
